Energy efficiency classes in the Russian and foreign system

Energy efficiency classes in the Russian and foreign system

The energy efficiency of a building means how rationally the resources are used. The identification of this indicator will reduce the non-targeted consumption of resources by applying specific methods, and still determine the amount of payments for heating and electricity for the residents of a multi-family apartment building or for the owners of public buildings. Ideally the class of energy efficiency of a building should influence the cost of housing. In Western countries, this is relevant, especially in Canada, where it is extremely sensitive to available resources, but in Russia the situation is far from the desired.

Classification that determines energy efficiency

The Russian classification differs from the Western one. In the United States and the European Union, the following system has been adopted: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, where A is the best energy efficiency indicator for buildings where resources are most appropriately allocated, and G is the worst one that is assigned to the buildings where significant leakage of energy is observed.

In Russia, the energy efficiency class of a building has slightly different designations, but we also have only seven main classes. They are A, B+, B, C+, C, D, E. There is an extended classification: A++, A+, A, B+, B, C+, C, C-, D, Е. It is also legal and can be used to determine the class of energy efficiency.

How is the energy efficiency class assigned?

Usually, in order to assign a class to a building, the specialists analyze the data of the general building metering devices for the whole year, after which this indicator is compared with the accepted average for the region. But this method is suitable for the buildings that were commissioned more than a year ago. Different methods are used for the buildings, including computer modeling, which allows to design a model of resource consumption in a building.

For almost 10 years in Russia, the norm of definition of the class of energy efficiency of the building is obligatory, earlier the analysis of energy consumption was carried out, but its results were not accounted for. With the enactment of the Law "On energy efficiency", each owner or responsible person should take care not only of the definition of the class of energy efficiency, but also of the fact that a sign indicating the received indicator should be placed on the facade of the building.
